Submit an application dossier.

The official application letter for membership in the European Geoparks Network (duly signed and stamped) and the complete application dossier should be compiled in English.

The application dossier for membership in the European Geoparks Network must be concise and comprehensive, not exceeding 50 pages (including photos and maps) in English.

The application dossier must be submitted in paper copy (3 copies) and electronic form (10 CD’s) in a file not exceeding 10 MB.

The dossier has to be accompanied by

a.       The official application letter (duly signed and stamped)

b.       An appendix with letters supporting the application.

c.        The self-evaluation document (Document A).

The application dossier must include precise information on the following points :

• Identification of the Geopark
• Scientific description
• Arguments justifying nomination as a European Geopark
• Overall economic situation of the zone
• Sustainable development policy instituted and importance of geotourism in this context
• Official application for nomination signed by the competent authority 

This outline for the dossier given below must be precisely, to help the zones interested in structuring their application.
In case of need for assistance, or to refine development strategies in connection with geotourism, the territory may ask for help from an expert from the expert committee. The expertise costs incurred will be managed by the caller territory.
 
A. Definition of the European Geopark territory
1- Name of site applying to become a European Geopark
2-Location (enclose maps showing the boundaries of the territory considered)
3-Surface area and geographic and human elements (population, density etc..)
4-Organization in charge of the European Geopark zone (Description of the organization(s)
5- Enclosures (must provide a clear description of the future European Geopark. They may include maps, photographs, slides, videocassettes, aerial photographs, bibliography etc)

B. Scientific description of the European Geopark territory
1- Definition of the geographic region in which the territory is located
2- General geological description (include all elements illustrating its geological interest)
3- Listing and description of the geological sites present on the territory of the Geopark (including any types of documents that may enhance their interest, such as photographs, etc..)
4- Details on the interest of these sites (scientific, educational, etc.)
5- Current or potential pressure on the territory and these sites
6- Current status in terms of protection of the sites
7-Data on the management of these sites
8- Listing and description of non-geological sites present in the territory that may be linked to the sites of geological interest

C. Arguments for nominating the territory as a European Geopark
1- Comprehensive analysis of the territory's potential for the development of geotourism
2- Overview of the existing geo-institution and geo-activities in the region of the Geopark
3- Policies for the protection, enhancement and economic development of the geological heritage present in the territory. Existing policies and those under preparation, existing and future actions.
4. The territory's interest in joining the European Geopark Network

D. General information on the territory
1- Economic activity. Briefly describe the main structures responsible for sustainable development policy in the territory. Describe the main activity areas currently present in the territory and its vivinity.
2- The provisions for the protection of the territory
3- Brief analysis of the present status of protection for the territory
4- Existing facilities (museums, sites open to the public, marked trails, etc...)
5- Future facilities planned

Enclose any further elements (slides, video, photographs,..) that may further our understanding of the territory concerned.
